The RTAI Christmas lunch was held in the sumptuous Hayfield Manor Hotel on December 8th. Once again the RTAI Choir enhanced the festive mood with a beautiful performance of seasonal numbers while guests enjoyed a “sup or two” of mulled wine. A very tasty lunch was served and judging by the lively and animated chatter, a great time was had by all. Unfortunately, the event was not recorded due to the absence of Sean Radley with his trusty camera. Hurry back Sean-you were missed!
Thank you to all the organisers but especially to Marie Dennehy for her superb and tasteful skills. A straw poll was conducted and those present voted overwhelmingly to repeat the event next year.
The annual December Charity Coffee Morning in the Clayton Silversprings was a huge success. A large crowd enjoyed a very pleasant coffee, scone and chat followed by a raffle where the numerous donated gifts were chosen by lucky prizewinners. There was a huge selection of seasonal treats to choose from.
A total of €2,500 was collected at this event. The proceeds were divided equally between Marymount and Penny Dinners. A huge thank you to all who attended and who contributed to the success of the occasion. Your generosity is greatly appreciated by the beneficiaries.
The 2018 walking season got off to a great start on 11th January.
The majority of the participants drove from inland regions, through the dense fog, wondering if they would be able to see their noses in front of them on the walk!
The sun was shining in Kinsale with hardly a wisp of fog.
The new year saw 34 hillwalkers stepping it out 9.5 km via the Dock, and Ardkilly, to Sandycove under the leadership of Angela Foley. We stopped on the ridge to admire the view back over Kinsale, and the Archdeacon Duggan bridge. Angela and Seán gave us a fascinating insight into the life of this remarkable man. (You can read more about him here).
8 amblers chose to stay in Kinsale, under the leadership of Clare Shelley, walking around the town and viewing the sights from Compass Hill.
Both groups joined up for lunch. The staff of the Trident Hotel provided delicious soup & sandwiches.
