Walking Back the Years to Redbarn  (Amble 8th May)

Heading east for Youghal we were distracted not by the swallows of early summer but by Euro
Election posters of massive size. While Walter Raleigh did not personally welcome us, our
leader, Kay McEnery, made sure all were present and ready for road. Probably because we
looked so well in our high-vis walking gear, she insisted we strut our stuff on the Promenade.
Her enthusiasm for her father’s town was infectious and even the weather obliged. The
Boardwalk is much loved by walkers and when we were not too engrossed in conversation we
“yielded right of way” to others.
The Walter Raleigh offered an extensive menu even in the face of a “no white fish” delivery. Our
heroic one-man-band of servers just about pulled off a miracle – pleasing everyone!!
Many who are running for election will have to cope with disappointment. Thanks yet again to
the volunteers of the RTAI. All of us who walked could feel as if we had topped the pole!
