It doesn’t seem like a year since our action packed Andalucian trip but 1st -8th October 2024 saw us on a very relaxing week in the Algarve. Based in Aramacao de Pera, our lovely guide Sonya took us on 3 tours to Cape St Vincent, Sagres, Alte/Silves, Lagos and Faro. We were given a potted history of each place and then plenty of time to roam around. Each town had something to offer by way of food markets, typical Portuguese architecture influenced by the Moors from centuries ago, cobbled streets and plenty of places to eat. I hesitate to say you couldn’t get lost anywhere with the sea nearly always to one side except for yours truly who couldn’t find the bus before we even left the airport on arrival.
Moving swiftly on, our hotel had all the facilities needed for a great holiday. After arduous days of lounging about by the pool, strolling down to the beach, shops, bars, boat expedition out to see the cliffs and sea caves, we entertained ourselves by night with memorable sing songs, raffles and card sessions. But what made it so special was the camaraderie and ease of interaction among us all. First timers were made to feel as welcome as people who had come previously. It works each year because of the willingness of people who offer to lead activities and go out of their way to include everybody who wants to be included.
If only everyone who wanted to come on holiday with Cork RTA could be accommodated. So it’ll be fastest on the phone again next year at 9.15am on whatever day to book!
