Walking under a Yellow Cloud at Rostellan.

Our walk leader, Margaret O’Flynn, was well prepared. She knew the walk and, more
importantly, she knew the window we had before a “Yellow Rain Warning” deluge might strike. We assembled at “Rosie’s”, Rostellan, placed our trust in our leader and hardly cast an eye on
the sky. Cóbh, across the water, was well illuminated in sunshine with no sign of a dark cloud.
We passed the site of the US Airforce Base 1914-1918, now a renowned tennis club and, on
reaching Whitegate, we doubled back and all without a raindrop.
We headed for the “The Rostellan Farm Shop” where a table was reserved for us. There in
indoor comfort we enjoyed our toasties and home baking as a shower of biblical intensity fell
and spelled out justification for Met Éireann’s warning.
Post our meal and in improving weather conditions we headed for home. Perhaps we had sailed
“close to the wind”, but Margaret had the measure of the moving parts and she saw us safely
through.
