A group of RTA members and friends thoroughly enjoyed Alice Barry’s self-penned FRUITCAKE in The White Horse Inn on October 16th.
The audience was captivated by this multi-layered one-woman performance. On one level, the play was about baking a cake : all of the ingredients and utensils were laid out on the table before Alice. As she prepared the mixture, she offered many recollections from her childhood. As she delved into her family history, her reminiscences presented a mixture of humour and sadness, along with more sinister elements . . .
In short, the mixing of the cake served as a perfect counterpoint to the pathos/bathos mix which prevailed throughout the show. For good measure (ha,ha), there was quite a twist at the end.
Tugadh go leor ábhar machnaimh dúinn agus sinn ag tabhairt aghaidh ar an mbóthar abhaile.
A huge thank you to the management and staff of the White Horse Inn for their wonderful venue and hospitality. Thanks also to Seán Radley for the great photos.
