It was like the first day of term with our members bursting to “catch up” after the long Christmas break. It also felt like the last day of term such was the exuberance of some walkers. It looked as if our leader, Clare Shelly, has used up all our good weather luck and it’s only mid January. It may well come to snow shoes in July.
We enjoyed bright sunshine, a crisp dry day, perfect for a stroll on “ The Banks of our own lovely Lee”. Even the rain promised by Met, Éireann held off until we were all safely home. The vibe as we walked along was so positive and obvious to others that we even attracted a “groupie”. The man, unknown to any of us, tagged along for three quarters of the walk as he told us his life story of 82 years.
The transformation of where we had walked last year has been beautifully enhanced on its completion. Lots of praise is well deserved by “City Hall” for what has been achieved. The huge numbers who throng our “new” Wonderland speak of the gratitude of citizens who appreciate the amenities.
Using Blackrock Castle as our meeting place and lunch destination post walk was a master stroke of Clare’s. She thus ensured all our needs were catered for. With 27 dining and selecting from a very wide and interesting menu, it was impressive to see our three servers deliver like clockwork. Lively chat at table was generous to RTAI for giving us such a happy day out. Clare Shelly, take a bow.
