Siamsa Um Thráthnóna

Our hard-working RTAI Committee has made the Cork Branch the envy of many. Cork members are spoilt for choice in the many activities the people we elect organise and drive on for us. We may take Walks, Dancing, Travel, Photography, Living Alone group, Coffee Mornings, Lectures etc, etc for granted. Yet we know that, as members, we are welcome if we choose to turn up.

Resting on their laurels may be tempting for some but Mary Cahill, Frank Tobin and  Marian O’Callaghan have further ambitions for us. Having seen how much members on tour enjoy informal self-made entertainment, the gallant three wondered if the fun and joy could be replicated on home soil during daylight hours.

On Thursday, November 6th between 2 and 5 at the White Horse, Ballincollig they decided to test the waters. Enjoying the facilities of the “Hare’s Corner, the chat was soon flowing and the vibes were conducive to us having a go. Happy to relate c.20 turned  up for “Siamsa” with open minds and lots of good will. Without arm twisting some members offered a song, others equally important, were generous listeners.

Andy brought his guitar and Billy his de luxe tin whistle. Some tall tales enjoyed an outing. Chualamar roinnt filíochta i nGaeilge agus i mBéarla. Bhí rogha ag daoine labhairt/canadh I mBéarla nó I nGaeilge freisin. The organisers must have been gratified to see that members were willing to turn up “blind” and take a chance on something new.

Más fíor go mbíonn gach tosnú lag, those who turned up may well have seen the birth of yet another Cork RTAI winner. A worthy addition to the varied activities that are appreciated and enjoyed by many. Molaim sibh, baill den choiste. Níl easpa mhisnigh ná easpa samhlaíochta de dhíth oraibh.
