We couldn’t have asked for a better day’s walking in this oasis of nature outside Mallow. With Summer Solstice brightness and finally wearing summer gear without the usual obligatory umbrella, raincoat, waterproof shoes etc at the ready, 27 of us ,led by Clare Duggan and Marian O Callaghan, took the longest perimeter route through this wonderful OPW managed park.
Parts are manicured, other sections are woodland, grassland, river and wetland, home to deer, Kerry cattle and a happy home to wildlife of all kinds. Crisscrossed by many walkways, shorter or longer walks can be undertaken.
Are we obsessed by food? Yes, Definitely! And Sarah’s Tearooms in the Courtyard of Doneraile house (worth a visit in itself) provided enough to sate us afterwards and ensure a return visit, either collectively or privately with others. As the postcards of yesteryear used to say ‘Wish you were here’
Thanks to Martin and Kathleen for the photos
Thanks to Mary Cahill for organising a wonderful day out.
