On 3rd February 2016 a group visited the Crawford Gallery, Emmet Place, Cork, to have a guided tour of the exhibiton: “The Language of Dreams”.
This exhibition focused on the Irish artists of the 20th Century who were influenced by mysticism and the fantastical. We were guided through the exhibition, from the Theosophists of the Celtic Twilight through the surrealists and the quasi abstract, such as Mary Swanzy, Gerard Dillon, Brian Boydell et al. All present agreed that the guided tour was of great benefit in understanding and contextualising the paintings and sculpture on view.
Due to limit on numbers by the gallery, not everyone who applied got a place on this tour. Further visits to future exhibitions will be arranged.
