Ballincollig Amenity Park Amble

2/12/21. 20 of us met this morning for a most pleasant easy going Amble, ably led by Clare Duggan around the park with its usual walkways, playing fields, riverside views, trees and wildflower areas. But uniquely this area is home to one of Ireland’s industrial archaeological gems, that of gunpowder manufacture from the 18th century onwards. The place was subsequently used by the British army and then our own army until 1998. We only explored part of this wonderful amenity.

Approaching it from other entrances within Ballincollig town will reveal other aspects of our heritage as well as being in a safe walking environment. If you haven’t been here already ,go soon!
