In view of the current adverse weather conditions, our first Amble of this year was organised more in hope than anything else but knowing our hardy members and reassurance from the Infant of Prague statue placed outside,34 of us had a glorious sunkissed easy stroll around Doneraile Estate. Fabulously maintained now by the OPW, there’s rolling parkland, the Awbeg river flowing through, woodland and deer to admire.
Sadly Doneraile house is undergoing renovations but we’ll visit it definitely next year on our return. We ended our walk with a gorgeous lunch in the café located in the kitchen of the house. Soup was made from vegetables grown in the estate. Again, another strong reason for visiting this wonderful place.
